Gardening IS possible for basically free. It’s just about shifting focus. I’ve collected native wildflower seeds from drainage ditches (yes, ethically), politely pinched tiny cuttings off plants while on a walk, and traded plants with gardening friends to create beautiful spaces. Not spending money on a garden can be a fun challenge! Native plants are easy to propagate and care for because they are happy to grow in the soil and rainfall in your area (They’re also the best way to support wildlife). There are many non-native plants that can be a good fit for the soil/water you currently have, too. It’s possible to grow fruits, berries, nuts, and vegetables without fertilizers or constant irrigation. These plants are not inferior in any way. Not at all. Not less beautiful. Not less tasty. You just might be growing something new, or a little bit different than what typically comes to mind. Hardy kiwis are a GREAT example of this. You get them started, and they’re good. Low-maintenance as anything. Buckets of kiwis for years. Of course, I had to buy a shovel, and pruners, and gloves, and a wheelbarrow. And I will spend money on fancy high-maintenance plants occasionally (dahlia obsession here). And yes, I charge money for my gardening workshops and courses, because we live in a world where money is actually a thing that exists. But spending hundreds or thousands of dollars is NOT a requirement to create a beautiful space, to grow food, or to support wildlife. #gardendesign #gardeningforbeginners #ecologicallandscaping #ecologicalgardening #gardeningonabudget #gardenprojectacademy
