🔴 The fortified church of Cincu is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is one of the largest Roman basilicas located in a Saxon town in Romania. Due to the positioning of the building on a hill between the rivers Olt and Hârtibaciu, which has three very steep sides, the church is considered a unique basilica because its defense was made only on the western side of the hill. The church was built in the village of Cincu in Brașov County by German settlers in the middle of the 13th century. The Evangelical Church of Cincu was built in the 13th century by German settlers, after which it was rebuilt in the first half of the 16th century in the Gothic style and later in the 18th century. Unlike many other churches, it had a double patron saint, that of the Virgin Mary and that of St. Paul. The first documentary attestation of the place of worship is found in a privilege granted by Matei Corvin in 1474 to those who defended the fortification. The piece of resistance of the church is the altar that represents the unbelief of the apostle Thomas, the altar presenting an altar stone on which are inscribed the words of Jesus to Thomas: "Domin’meus et Deus meu Toma quia vidisti beati qui non viderunt et credierunt." Originally, the altar was made for the church in Moşna, later it was bought by the locals from Cincu and painted by a great Sibiu master of the time. Members of the community of Cincu appear in one of the scenes at the bottom of the altar, they are represented in folk costumes of local shepherds.
