Author and professor M Earl Smith and a co-author share M Earl's process for writing local history. This presentation was recorded at the 2022 Arnow Conference for the Humanities at Somerset Community College, which M Earl co-chaired with James Taylor. M. Earl (Martin) Smith is an instructor of English and creative writing at Kean University and Union County College in New Jersey. His scholarship includes work in the fields of rare books, material texts, the history of the book, writing for children and young adults, and local/regional history. He has authored 12 books, with volumes on local history, the history of sports, children’s nonfiction, and literary fiction. Martin holds degrees from Chatfield College, Pine Manor College, Somerset Community College, Morehead State, and Tohono O'odham Community College. He currently resides in Chester, Pennsylvania with his two Shetland Sheepdogs (Che and Berry).
