The 5th SA Conductors' Competition 2022 WINNER Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jacobus de Jager. Jacobus de Jager is currently the conductor of the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra and has conducted ensembles such as the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Stellenbosch University String Ensemble, St. Petersburg Conservatory Conductor’s Orchestra and Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra. He has received conducting masterclasses from Neeme Järvi, Victor Yampolsky, Daniel Raiskin, Xandi van Dijk, Joost Smeets, Kazim Abdulla and Arjan Tien. He started his studies in 2016 with Corvin Matei and has been studying with Daniel Boico since 2018. In 2019 he studied with Alexander Polishchuk at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and in 2021 participated in the Meta Artists International Leadership and Management Workshop for Conductors, with lecturers such as Simon Rattle and Paavo Järvi. Jacobus conducted the world premiere of Kathleen Tagg’s Please Dream: In his words, a tribute to Desmond Tutu at the 2022 Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival where he was an assistant conductor. He is completing his MMus in piano performance with Nina Schumann and Luis Magalhães.
