ZENOBIA SHROFF | on racism and sexual harassment

On Thursday evening, Nov 8th, the Martire Media Theater was brimming with SHU faculty and staff, gathered to hear the story behind actress Zenobia Shroff’s journey, and how she came to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress. However, the journey was not an easy one. Shroff had to often be, as host Professor Sharbari Ahmed stated, “the agent of her own change.” She had to play roles that generally did nothing to uplift her Indian heritage. During these moments in her career, Shroff decided to create a few roles for herself when she produced and starred in her own one woman show, “Exotic Observations,” which has been performed at the prominent Upright Citizens Brigade in Manhattan, NY. She brought attention to her own name and, as time progressed, the entertainment industry opened the doors to more diversity. Shroff, who had kept at her craft through thick and thin, finally caught her big break. Shroff holds many credits in film such as The Big Sick (2017) and television credits in Madam Secretary, The Affair, and The Resident.
