Let’s stand together - UN Chief at UNAOC 10th Global Forum | United Nations

The UN Alliance of Civilizations opened its 10th Global Forum in Cascais, Portugal, with Heads of State and delegations and civil society groups from more than 100 countries, adopting a forward-looking declaration and hosting a plethora of discussions centred on bridging intercultural and inter-faith understanding. The Global Forum’s theme this year is United in Peace: Restoring trust, reshaping the future. At the opening ceremony, UN Secretary-General António Guterres thanked the Government of Portugal for its hospitality in hosting the three-day event. “At the risk of being somewhat partial, I would like to commend the decision to hold this Forum in my country and in the beautiful city of Cascais,” said the UN Secretary-General, who was Portugal’s Prime Minister from 1995 to 2002. The Global Forum serves as a reminder that even through times of uncertainty, the world is more united that divided, Mr. Guterres said, emphasising that “in these turbulent times, too many people are convinced that differences must define us, but the most powerful force of all is the recognition that we are more united by our common fate than divided by our distinct identities. That is the essence of the United Nations and the raison d’être of the Alliance of Civilizations.
