Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Wednesday in Beijing. Xi said that the two sides announced in Samarkand last September to upgrade China-Belarus relations to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, which has injected strong impetus to bilateral cooperation in all fields. China's high-quality development and modernization will bring new opportunities to Belarus and other countries in the world, he said. Facing the unstable and uncertain international situation, China is ready to work with Belarus to promote the sound and stable development of bilateral relations at a high level, Xi said. Xi stressed that both sides should enhance political mutual trust and remain each other's true friends and good partners. He said China highly appreciates Belarus's firm support for China's justified position on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang and Hong Kong, and on human rights. Xi called on the two sides to firmly support each other's choice of development path, support each other in safeguarding their core interests, opposing external interference in their internal affairs, and safeguarding their sovereignty and political security. He said the two sides should give full play to the role of the China Belarus Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, expand economic and trade cooperation, do a good job in building the China-Belarus Industrial Park and focus on the joint building of the Belt and Road to advance cooperation in connectivity projects such as the China-Europe Railway Express service. Both countries should deepen cooperation in medical and health care, expand sub-national cooperation and strengthen people-to-people exchanges to make the China-Belarus friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, said the Chinese president. Noting that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, Xi said maintaining world peace and development remains a long and arduous task. China appreciates Belarus's support for the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Belarus at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms to jointly address global challenges and build a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi said. Lukashenko, for his part, expressed once again warm congratulations on the success of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The Belarusian people will stand firmly with China at all times, he said. Belarus firmly supports China in safeguarding its core interests, and firmly supports and actively participates in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, Lukashenko said. Belarus is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in science and technology, industry, agriculture and tourism, push forward the construction of the China-Europe Railway Express and the Belarus-China Industrial Park, he said, adding that Belarus welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest. Belarus is also willing to strengthen coordination with China on major international and regional issues and jointly commit to safeguarding international and regional security and stability, said Lukashenko. The two leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Xi said China's position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and clear and has released a paper stating its position on the political settlement of the crisis. Noting that the core of China's position is to promote peace talks, Xi said it is essential to stick to the direction of political settlement, abandon all Cold War mentality, respect the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture. Lukashenko said the Belarusian side fully supports China's position on and proposition for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. After the talks, the two leaders jointly signed a joint statement of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Belarus on further developing the China-Belarus all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era, and witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents in economy and trade, industry, agriculture, customs, science and technology, health, tourism, sports and other fields. https://www.cctvplus.com/news/2023030...
