How the Tower of London Survived WW2

The bombing of the UK during the Second World War, known as the Blitz, was a threat unlike anything the Tower of London had faced before in its 1,000 years of history. But the fortress also played an active part in World War Two. It revived its role as a prison and a site of execution. Soldiers made use of the White Tower, Yeoman Warders ‘dug for victory’, and the Women's Auxillery Airforce operated a Barrage Balloon the Tower Moat.  So what was life like in the Tower of London in wartime, and how did the fortress survive this threat?
