However, plasmids are the "extra" DNA of the prokaryotes, and are used extensively in biotechnology (e.g. F-plasmids & conjugation, recombination, etc). Another note: While I simplify the roles of mitochondria as the "powerhouses of the cell" in this video, they are actually so much more.
