Cala Junco is one of the most evocative bays of the Aeolian archipelago and perhaps of the whole Mediterranean. We are at the southern end of the island of Panarea, the Milazzese cape. Sicily is a few miles further south. The inlet, almost a natural pool, is protected by two arched arms of lava rock. Inside there are two pebble beaches separated by a spur. The sea varies from bright turquoise to emerald green, the waters are crystal clear. Some black rocks, vestiges of ancient eruptions, rise from its waters. On the promontory overlooking the bay rise the remains of the prehistoric village dating back to the fourteenth century BC. Beyond their archaeological value, they add to the splendor of nature, the dark charm of myth. Cala Junco is a "must" of Panarea and the Aeolian Islands. It can be easily reached on foot from the pier of San Pietro with a half-hour walk that allows, among other things, to admire the beauty of the coast of the Drautto district and the magnificent sandy beach of Cala degli Zimmari. At the end of the latter, the path starts and, climbing with steps to the top of the promontory, allows you to reach the bay and its beaches. If you do not want to walk, you can take an electric "taxi" from the landing stage and be taken to the end of the road. Perhaps a more exciting alternative is to reach Cala Junco by sea, by renting a boat with or without a sailor. From the beach you can easily access the prehistoric village which is definitely worth a visit. The coastal area of Cala Junco is an integral marine reserve, part of the Isola di Panarea Nature Reserve. A path entrusted to the FAI explores the hinterland by climbing the hill overlooking the bay. It goes without saying that when visiting it, by land or by sea it does not change, you must pay the utmost attention to respect its integrity and cleanliness. Nature has given us a heritage and it is our duty to preserve it. This short video was made using exclusively a GoPro Hero 7 and a Mavic Air. The essential editing was done with iMovie. The miniature is taken from a photo by Francesca Sparatore (Nikon D7500). The track Cast of Pods is by Doug Maxwell and is available on the YouTube Audio Library. More information?
