I finally beat this game today for the first time. I've owned it for years, but never got around to playing all the way through it. Heavenly Sword was a standout exclusive PS3 in the first year of the system being on the market. The first year from November 17th, 2006 till November 16th, 2007 when Uncharted (The first big killer app game) released, the pickings were slim for PS3 exclusives. You had Resistance: Fall of Man almost single-handedly keeping the system afloat with some other good exclusives released in between like Motorstorm, Warhawk, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and this game, Goddess of War (Heavenly Sword). Heavenly Sword is among a strong lineup of good exclusives that, while none were a singular killer app on their own, were games that were certainly worth playing if you owned a PS3. Heavely Sword is too early in the PS3's lineup to have trophy support. If you remember, Sony added trophies in 2008, and even Uncharted had to be patched with trophy support later. I really enjoy Heavely Sword. It's a great action game that, yes, did steal a lot of it's ideas from God of War, but it did add it's own spin on the formula. It's far from a direct copy of Kratos' PS2 exploits. PS3 owners who loved action games probably had a great 2007, God of War II hit on the PS2 in March 2007, Ninja Gaiden Sigma came out in July of 2007, and Heavenly Sword hit in September 2007. Heavenly Sword was a great release, even if it was unfairly judged as not just a GoW clone, but also given some backlash in the fanboy flame wars of the day as not a killer app. While yes, there probably weren't a lot of people willing to plop down $600 for a PS3 just to play Heavenly Sword, It's still a great game. It's short length may have made it a great rental over a great buy at the time, but it's worth picking up still. An of course, the developers of Heavenly Sword, Ninja Theory, would later go on to make Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (another great game that was overlooked in it's time), and the Hellblade games which they are best known for. #ps3 #heavenlysword #retrogaming #nocommentarygameplay
