Join us as we paddle our BOTE paddle board out to Moku Nui, one of the iconic Mokulua Islands off the Windward coast of Oahu! We had originally planned to launch from Lanikai Beach, but like many have experienced… no parking due to road construction! So we pivoted and launched from Bellows Air Force Station instead—which made for a longer, windier adventure than we expected, especially on the way back! 😅 👉 Moku Nui (the northern island) is open to the public and perfect for exploring, relaxing, and bird watching. Its twin, Moku Iki (the southern island), is off-limits as a protected seabird sanctuary. • The paddle from Lanikai Beach to Moku Nui is roughly 0.75 miles (about 30–45 minutes depending on wind and current). • From Bellows, it’s closer to 1.5 miles one way—and we definitely felt the extra distance! 💡Local Tips: • Launch early from Lanikai or Kailua Beach—there are plenty of SUP and kayak rentals nearby. • Always check wind and surf conditions before heading out. • Bring water, reef-safe sunscreen, and shade if you plan to hang out on the island. 🚨 Pro tip: Launching from Bellows (Military ID required) is beautiful, but be ready for a serious upper body workout! 👨👩👧 This was a true family adventure with our 3-year-old daughter Bella along for the ride—and she loved every minute of it. These are the memories we live for. 🌊💕 💬 Have you paddled to the Mokuluas? Do you prefer launching from Lanikai or Kailua Beach? Got any SUP or kayak tips for paddling with toddlers?
