Deep Learning-based Side-channel Analysis: Challenges & Perspectives | Stjepan | hardwear.io Webinar

Abstract: -------------------- Researchers have used machine learning in side-channel analysis (SCA) for more than ten years and deep learning for six years. We witnessed significant progress and results showing clear benefits of using such techniques in SCA during that time. What is more, every year brings improved results that seemed impossible only a short time ago. As such, one needs to ask whether deep learning-based SCA is "solved" or what are the remaining challenges. This talk will cover the most important challenges that need to be resolved and some possible directions on how to solve them. Additionally, we will briefly discuss the most successful stories and how they improve state-of-the-art. Speaker Bio: --------------------- Stjepan Picek is an associate professor at Radboud University, The Netherlands. His research interests are security/cryptography, machine learning, and evolutionary computation. Prior to the associate professor position, Stjepan was an assistant professor at TU Delft, and a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, USA and KU Leuven, Belgium. Stjepan finished his PhD in 2015 with a topic on cryptology and evolutionary computation techniques. Stjepan also has several years of experience working in industry and government. Up to now, Stjepan has given more than 20 invited talks at conferences and summer schools and published more than 100 refereed papers.
