In this cover I dedicate myself to a song called "Call Me" that has stayed with me since my youth. On the one hand, this is of course due to this bombastic song itself, but also to Deborah "Debbie" Harry, who, as the front woman of the US pop and rock band "Blondie", could definitely be described as "outstanding" with her style. The song, which was called "Man Machine" in its half-finished rough version and was intended by Giorgio Moroder for the soundtrack of the film "American Gigolo", was originally supposed to be sung by Stevie Nicks, the singer of "Fleetwood Mac". However, this did not happen and so the offer ended up with Blondie. However, that turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. Thanks to Debbie Harry's creativity and quality, the final song with the well-known title was quickly created, but the production was overshadowed by various internal tensions, so that the original was sung by Debbie Harry, but the remaining parts were recorded by musicians who were from the reach of Giorgio Moroder. Including a certain "Harold Faltermeyer" on the keyboard - known to many from the song "Axel F." from the movie "Beverly Hills Cop." Blondie's drummer is Clem Burke, but I couldn't find out who was actually on the drums at the time. For listeners with particularly pointed ears: In many (particularly later) mixes of the song and also live, the hi-hat is played with alternating 1/16 notes. According to my research, the original version plays a shuffle groove with a 1/16 hi-hat "overdubbed". After careful consideration, I ultimately decided on the shuffle version - also because there was no cover for it yet.
