On the 29th September 1940, two Avro Anson aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force No2. Service Flying Training School, were on a cross country training flight. Whilst flying in close formation over the town of Brockelsby, New South Wales and at height of 3000ft, they collided whilst in a turn. The mid air collision between the two Avro Anson aircraft of the RAAF placed the crews in mortal danger, as well as those on the ground in the town of Brocklesby, New South Wales, Australia. The two RAAF Anson trainer aircraft had not long left RAAF Station Forest Hill, just outside the town of Wagga Wagga on a routine cross country navigation training flight when the accident occurred. The pilot of one of the aircraft, LAC Leonard Graham Fuller now had to make a decision. Should he bail out of his stricken Avro Anson along with the other aircrew, or attempt a forced landing. The Avro Anson was a British, twin engine training aircraft that had originally been designed for the Royal Air Force as a maritime reconnaissance aircraft but following the start of World War Two it had shown itself to be a very worthy aircrew training aircraft. A large number were deployed around the world as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and these two Avro Anson aircraft were assigned to the No.2 Service Flight Training School of the Royal Australian Air Force at RAAF Forest Hill.
