Alexis Saborit was arrested for allegedly "beheading and dumping the 'bloody body' of America Thayer, 55, a Minnesota woman he allegedly was in a relationship with on the street," police said. Disturbing footage circulating online appeared to show the moment America Thayer, 55, was dragged from her car and attacked before her body was left on the pavement in Shakopee on Wednesday. Alexis Saborit was caught shortly afterwards near a hotel he had been staying and appeared to admit to police that he killed America Thayer because she wanted to break up. "On the way to court, Victim told the Defendant she wanted to get rid of the Defendant and end her relationship with him. The Defendant said he used a knife to kill Victim because she had "gone too far" in her abuse of him and in her comments about ending their relationship," the court document read. One witness a few cars behind America Thayer’s allegedly saw Alexis Saborit make a hitting motion while sitting behind the wheel, then throw something. The witness said they then saw Alexis Saborit drag what looked like a body out of the car. Another person recorded video through a residential window that appeared to show Alexis Saborit pull America Thayer out of the car and then pick up her head by the hair. On Wednesday, Alexis Saborit and America Thayer were together earlier in the day and went to the park. Authorities have not said what motivated the attack, but Alexis Saborit has a criminal history that includes a domestic assault conviction for an attack against America Thayer in 2017. At that time, she said they had been dating for seven years. The police statement submitted to court, says that he and America Thayer had been dating for several years. Police said Alexis Saborit, 42, was arrested on Thursday, July 29, 2021 on suspicion of second-degree murder after her grisly death as officers recovered a large knife in an alley near the scene. America Thayer worked at Dollar Tree and My Pillow, where co-workers claimed she was allegedly domestically abused by the suspect, KMSP reported. A local resident helped cops locate the weapon allegedly used to kill America Thayer, with the statement adding that her dog had found a knife in a garden near the intersection of Spencer Street and 4th Avenue. MSN News reports that the statement says cops noted a black handle sticking up from the ground, concealed in a bush. The knife was almost entirely concealed in the dirt and difficult to see, the court document adds. It was described as a black machete with a partially serrated edge. The blade was covered with what cops described as a blood-like substance and there appeared to be strands of hair on the blade. The knife also appeared to fit the sheath found at the crime scene, the document claims. Friends described Americ Thayer as a bubbly and outgoing person who was popular with customers in her retail jobs. Former co-worker Eileen Necklen told the Star Tribune: "She was always in an upbeat mood." Lori Stejskal, another one of America Thayer’s colleagues at Dollar Tree, said of the alleged murder: “I was shocked, but not surprised because of the way [Saborit] had been.” Lori is one of three women who worked at Dollar Tree to claim they saw signs of domestic abuse. They allege that Anerica Thayer had once come to work with a broken arm and bruises on her face and would set her phone onto Facebook’s FaceTime function between 4pm and 9.30pm so Alexis Saborit could watch her at work. America Thayer would also stay over with friends to avoid Alexis Saborit’s behavior, it is claimed. The couple were together for several years. Alexis Saborit was “dangerous and controlling” and wouldn’t let America Thayer use the bathroom alone before her beheading, her friends have claimed. America Thayer, 55, was brutally dragged from her car and decapitated before her body was left on the pavement in Shakopee, Minneapolis. Friends and colleagues of America Thayer told of how Alexis Saborit’s controlling behavior had raised alarm - and they suspected she was a victim of domestic abuse. Reba Skaar, who worked with Thayer for three years at a Dollar Tree store in the area, told the Star Tribune that Alexis Saborit had once not let her use the bathroom alone on a visit to her apartment and was “just dangerous." Skaar also claimed that America Thayer would sometimes spend the night sleeping at her desk at her MyPillow job or in her car at the Amazon fulfillment center parking lot. HORRIFIC STORY. This is unfortunately part of the domestic violence cycle. My heart is heavy for America Thayer and her family. I hope the judge locks Alexis Saborit in the hole somewhere and throws away the key.
