"Stream of Consciousness" from Dream Theater's "Train of Thought" album (2003). What a song.. I remember always skipping this one when I would listen to Train of Thought. It is an amazing song though. I like how the bass stays pretty low for the most part. Anyway, I've been wanting to do more Dream Theater, but a lot of their songs require a 6 string bass. And when it's not a 6 string, it's just insanely difficult. Recording this was very, very difficult for me so don't expect me to suddenly bust out the Warwick again to cover Metropolis pt 1 or whatever. Anyway, you will need some distortion and an octaver pedal for this song which is always a ton of fun. The last time I used my octaver was for the Peter Gabriel video I think. Anyway, I do want to point out that it is not possible to play the 2nd fret on the low B string right after playing the 11th fret on the E string like most tabs show at 10:08. I'm sorry but it's just not possible. What Myung did is he recorded these parts separately. A human can't switch from the 11th fret to the 2nd and make it sound that clean. So I went for an alternative way to play it which is sliding to the 9th fret on the E string. It makes sense to do it like this. I'm also uncertain about the insanely fast lick at 2:59. The guitar definitely plays that and the bass also plays the first 3 notes and the last 2 notes. But I'm not sure if John actually plays the full lick there. So it sounds a bit sloppy maybe, but that's the best I can do I guess. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the song Some important information that nobody is going to read.
