🐦‍⬛ Dinas Brân Castle (or Castell Dinas Brân) is a ruined medieval castle dramatically situated on a steep hill above the town of Llangollen, North Wales. Its name translates to "Crow Castle" or "Crow's Fortress". 🗻 Perched on a conical hill overlooking the Vale of Llangollen and the River Dee, the stone castle was built in the 1260s by Gruffudd ap Madog, a Welsh prince. It was constructed on the site of an earlier Iron Age hillfort. The castle had a short active life, and in 1277, the Welsh burned it to prevent it from falling into English hands during Edward I's conquest. It was officially abandoned after 1282. 🧗 Despite its ruined state, the site is a popular destination for hikers due to its breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
