RDW blood test is done to know the difference in the size and shape of a person's red blood cells. Apart from detecting both of these, it also tells about the cause of anemia. It is done within the CBC test itself. Which tells all the information about red and white blood cells including platelets in the blood. Why is RDW blood test done? RDW blood test is especially done for the diagnosis of anemia and other diseases. Apart from anemia, the doctor can advise you to get this test done to confirm any of the diseases mentioned below. Diabetes Liver disease Heart disease Cancer Thalassemia Any chronic disease, such as HIV or AIDS If you see these symptoms, then definitely get an RDW blood test done Frequent dizziness Feeling weak and tired while doing any work Symptoms of anemia Low iron level in the body Blood disorders due to genetic predisposition Chronic diseases like HIV or Crohn's disease Need for RDW blood test If you experience symptoms that are similar to anemia, to determine if it is anemia, your doctor may advise you to get an RDW blood test. These indicate anemia or a related disease. Along with this, it also shows that your body is deficient in nutrients like folate, iron or vitamin B12. Based on the result, the doctor can diagnose you with macrocytic anemia. In this condition, the red blood cells are smaller or larger than their normal size. For accurate diagnosis, the doctor may ask you to get an MCV test done. If the test result is low If your test result is low, then you do not need to worry.
