The bricks have already been laid and its time for the finishing touches...the mortar edging! The mortar edging is narrow with just 2 rows. It’s super easy to crochet yet creates a very professional finish. On the brick blanket, the first row serves 3 purposes. First, it widens the outer border to match the inner mortar border. Second, it evens the transitions on the outer edge between the motifs. And third, it readies stabilizes the edge for the final row. The braid-like stitches of the final row add last row adds , but the structure of the stitches add texture and frames the brick blanket. You will find this 2-stitch repeat is the perfect finale for a lot of other projects too. The mortar edging is so quick to crochet, you will complete your brick blanket in no time at all! The companion pattern includes 2 sizes and is available by following this link: https://twistedyarns.com/patterns/bri... Make sure to use coupon TY20B at checkout to receive 20% off! In Part 1 of this series, learn the easy one row repeat of the brick stitch. While it lends itself well to overall patterning, for the brick blanket, we crochet rectangular brick and half-brick motifs. This makes it an ideal project to consume a basketful of partial skeins as each brick requires just over half an ounce of yarn. In Part 2, we will crochet the bricks together with the mortar border. In Part 3, we will put the finishing touches on the blanket by adding a narrow, thick edging to the outer border. This edging is easily adapted so can be used on other blankets too!
