SWFL Eagles ~ 1/15/20 ~ E14 Departs on Golden Wings. A Tragic Loss.

E14 was restless all night, crawling away from Harriet for a brief time, then trying hard to crawl up under her. E14 had been bleeding since 5:30 and was no doubt cold from blood loss, and wanted Mom’s comfort. M15 flew down and sat on the nest with Harriet & E14 at 9:30, and again at 11:30. Waiting and watching. On 1/15/2002 at 1:30 AM little E14 succeeded in crawling up under Harriet; stretched her head and right foot out; and finally after bleeding to death for 7 ½ hours, never moved again. At 27 days old, E14 departed the same way she entered, under Mom with Dad watching. I have no doubt mom knows the exact time that E14 took a last breath, and I believe it was then at 1:30, but at 6:57 AM mom gently touched E14’s foot just to make sure before dragging the little eaglet to the edge of the nest.
