Packing Stick 3. Post Hole Digger (Earth Auger Optional) 4. Shovel 5. Tape Measure 6. Wheel Barrow (or Bucket) 7. Yard Stick MATERIALS NEEDED 1. 50 lb Bag of Pole Setting Concrete 2. Crushed Stone or Gravel 3. Water 4. Green Treated 4" x 4" Post STEP 1: Remove the old mailbox by rocking it back and forth and side to side to free it up. Then lift it straight up to remove. • Note: If original post is in good shape with a firm foundation, you may be able to reuse it. If post needs replacing, remove original and follow next steps. If original post was set in concrete, dig up around hole to remove. • Note: According to the USPS the front of the mailbox should be 6" to 8" from curb and the inside surface 41" to 45" from street level. STEP 2: Determine hole location for your mailbox post. Using yardstick, position front of Whitehall mailbox 6" to 8" back from curb. Mark your hole location. STEP 3: Using post hole digger, dig a 12" to 14" diameter hole below the frost line. We suggest a hole depth of at least 24" deep. STEP 4: Pour 4" to 6" of gravel into the bottom of the hole to assist with drainage. STEP 5: Attach post level and place post cut to proper length in center of hole. Be sure that post is positioned square to street using yard stick as a guide. STEP 6: Pour half of the bag of concrete evenly around post and add half of the required water. Pack with packing stick to remove any voids or air pockets. STEP 7: Using attached post level or standard level, check post for level in both directions and squareness to street. Adjust if necessary. STEP 8: Pour remaining concrete evenly around post along with remaining water. Pack with packing stick to remove any voids or air pockets. STEP 9: Recheck post for level in both directions and squareness to street. Readjust if necessary. Allow post to set according to concrete directions. STEP 10: Add dirt to level off around hole. STEP 11: Slide aluminum post over the partially buried 4” x 4” with the two bolt holes positioned away from the road and the post resting on the ground. • Note: According to the USPS the inside surface 41" to 45" from street level. STEP 12: Using the supplied allen wrench, position the optional post cuff between the two holes on the mailbox post. STEP 13: Drill two 2" deep pilot holes in the center of the hole openings in the aluminum mailbox post. STEP 14: Install two supplied 2" x 1/4” lag bolts to secure the aluminum post to the wooden 4" x "4 post, making sure aluminum post is level vertically. STEP 15: Install two supplied plastic bolt caps over lag bolt heads. STEP 16: Use supplied allen wrench to reposition post cuff to rest on the ground.
