Most of us have cut our gaskets from cereal boxes but today we take the time to use proper gasket material to form a challenging example for a 74 year old Zenith carburetor. Though I have a wide selection of round gasket cutters, usually only one large one and one small one are used for the process. Now really all you need is a small ball pein hammer, a pair of scissors and a healthy dose of patience to do a job, but it is nice to have a variety of gasket cutter diameters available. You NEVER know what size you are going to need. On parts whose gaskets have to locate different holes out in the center or go around odd castings, you will see a pattern of typing paper being made. To keep the paper from ripping or being damaged by the pressure of my finger, I use a healthy dose of graphite to smear around the perimeter. It not only lubricates the surface from your touch, it will not allow the paper to stretch like it would with WD 40 or a thin film of oil. Of course, this step is only an option as you can, with care, place the gasket material right on the surface on the component and tap lightly with the ball pein and cut it directly.
