Sleeping on a Sampan: Day 2 of Our Magical Mekong River Journey

Welcome back to Day 2 of our magical journey through the Mekong Delta aboard a traditional sampan boat! 🚤🌿 We started our day with a peaceful breakfast on board, followed by a kid-led tour of our cozy sampan. Their excitement is contagious! Then we made our first stop at a colorful Cao Dai temple, where we learned about this unique Vietnamese religion. As we sailed, we passed by a floating wholesale market, a unique sight! Sellers hang the vegetables or fruit they sell from a pole on their boats so buyers can see what’s available from a distance. It’s a wholesale hub: people pull up in boats, stock up, and then go resell the produce in local village markets. After a relaxing lunch on board, we arrived in Long Xuyen and visited Tiger Island, the birthplace of Vietnam’s second president. We wrapped up our day with a beautiful dinner on the boat, watching the river flow by as the sun set behind us. This slow, immersive travel experience has been a true gift. 🛏️ The boat anchored near Chau Doc, where we spent another peaceful night, ready for new adventures in the morning.
