Darkness is the heart's true essence! Okay, so the way this works is that the darkness is broken up into a grid, and depending on the radius and position of the light source (in this case, the fairy), the squares on the grid light up (with varying intensity). Now, the main issue is that renpy wasn't built for this, so the game chugs quite a bit. I managed to get to an okay size for the grid (a smaller grid size for each square would look more natural, and 'high resolution') as well as the update timer, which is set to every 60 frames (aka every second, because the game runs at 60fps). This means that the light illuminating may be delayed, but if I had reduced the timer and grid size, it would run really slowly.
