Join me in exploring Doctor Who Filming Locations in the beautiful and iconic Trafalgar Square which appeared in The Day of the Doctor, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Chase, Rose, The Christmas Invasion and more! I've just been on Westminster Bridge and I'm making my way back past Big Ben and taking a right onto Parliament Street. Along here, there are plenty of pubs, restaurants, stores, government buildings, statues, and monuments! There were a couple of cool places that caught my eye along the way, including the Red Lion Pub, the King Charles Street Arch, and Richmond House to name a few. There were lots of red double decker buses, too! Then I was there, Trafalgar Square, which is absolutely incredible! You're going to see two main things here: the equestrian statue of King Charles the First, and you're also gonna see Nelson's Column! Nelson's Column is 51.59 meters and 169 feet and 3 inches tall with Admiral Horatio Nelson on top! You see the Sycorax spaceship cast a shadow over the Nelson Column in Doctor Who Series 2 The Christmas Invasion. Also, in 1964's Doctor Who: The Dalek Invasion of Earth Part 3, we see Jenny, Barbara, and Dortmund running from the Daleks into Trafalgar Square in London! And there's this incredible shot of Nelson's Column zooming down from it to show the Daleks around it! It gave me chills to be in the same place that the Daleks had trundled around London all those years before; 60 years before! And in the 50th anniversary special Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor, we see Trafalgar Square as the TARDIS is carried in via helicopter into Trafalgar Square! We also see Nelson's Column there! Matt Smith had to do some incredible stunt work. You can see him hanging off of the TARDIS there! It's such an incredible shot and an incredible episode! You see the lions in Trafalgar Square in the background as well! They're also in front of the National Gallery, which plays a big role in The Day of the Doctor as well. I remember watching The Day of the Doctor as it premiered on TV. To think that ten years later, I would be walking in front of and standing in front of the National Gallery like the Doctor was then is just so mind blowing and amazing to think about! If we go back to London 1965 aka Doctor Who Season 2: The Chase Part 6, we see Nelson Column and Trafalgar Square as the subject of a photo shoot and montage of Ian and Barbara. It's a really sweet sequence. Clearly, the cast and crew are having a lot of fun with it as well. It's a unique technique for a special moment in the show's history. I got to line up shots of 2023 London with shots from the Chase where the Daleks would have been patrolling. So cool! I saw the very Lion that would have been the one that Ian and Barbara were celebrating next. It was so cool to see this very famous Doctor Who moment’s location from the Chase in person! This is the spot where Barbara was photographed with the pigeons flying around her and getting all excited. And I found the fountain where we see Mickey and Rose at the very beginning of the new series of Doctor Who Series 1 Episode 1: Rose. You can see the National Gallery behind them, and also they show Trafalgar Square! And if we hop back in time again to the Chase again, we also see one of the shots of Ian here with the fountain and National Gallery behind him. It was so special to be in this beautiful place! I mean, the fountain itself is just incredible. It was so much fun to be there, and to know that I was where they had filmed for Doctor Who: Rose and The Dalek invasion of Earth, The Chase, and other episodes that I haven't shown today, like Invasion of the Dinosaurs! There is something so beautiful and incredible about not only going to these beautiful locations, but the fact that they were in Doctor Who! I then took a picture of the National Gallery and also took a selfie with it. As you can see, I was really enjoying myself! It is absolutely stunning on the steps of the National Gallery here in Trafalgar Square! I also wanted to make sure that I got a shot of the fountain to match with the photo of Ian and Barbara from The Chase in 1964. And while it's not perfect, you do see that same spire in the background, so I'm very happy with that! Evening was approaching fast, so I decided that my next activity would be to take an evening bus tour of London. So tune in next time to see that!
