Chosen from nearly 60,000 entries by 3,778 photographers from 141 countries, the 2025 World Press Photo Contest awarded photographs document struggle and defiance, but also human connection and courage. The awarded photographs show the power of authentic photojournalism and documentary photography. Watch the global jury share the main themes across the 42 winning works and the photographs that left a lasting impression on them. Since 1955, the annual World Press Photo Contest has recognized the best photojournalism and documentary photography, bearing witness to the events that have shaped the past year. The Contest works with six worldwide regions. Entries are judged and awarded in the region in which the photographs are shot, rather than the nationality of the photographer. Each region has three format-based categories: Singles, Stories and Long-Term Projects.
