Exploring Grylls Bunny, Botallack Mine

Exploring Grylls Bunny, the oldest section of Botallack Mine, which would come to be one of Cornwall's most famous mines. These open cast cave like workings are both above ground and below ground. A quarry like area can be found at the front of the mine, filled with granite boulders. Backing this quarry area are the mines cave-like system of tunnels which extend beneath the field above. This labyrinth of underground passages connect a number of small pits together. As well as the main underground passages, there are also a few smaller ones around the edge of the quarry, which are quite cramped. It was here at Grylls Bunny which is where mining at Botallack first started, where mining continued right the way through to 1895.
