On the evening of March 2nd 2016, the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group rescued a newborn foal that was not even 4 hours old that had been attacked and abandoned by a new dominant stallion of the family band. After receiving colostrum and plasma and vet care, the foal recovered and is now doing really. The feeding schedule is brutal, day and night every 2 hours a special group of SRWHMG volunteers are feeding the wild horse baby who was named Rosco. After a long search we found him a surrogate mare who had lost her own foal. However by that time baby Rosco was so used to being fed by humans that he did not recognize a horse momma anymore or know how to nurse. For the next 3 days we tried to feed him his bottle right under the mare and get him to nurse, but he did not seem to like the taste of her udders. The mare also did not except the foal right away. But this moment here, after 3 days of trying, signifies the pairing of the two, and they now love each other a lot!. We just wanted to share this happy ending for both orphan and momma. Anyone who is trying to pair up a surrogate mare and orphan foal should not give up, should make sure the mare cannot kick the foal and should keep trying, because happy endings are just so good! The SRWHMG wants to purchase this surrogate mare. To help go to our website www.saltriverwildhorsemanagementgroup.org
