In this lecture we begin the study of informal fallacies, following the classical framework used in Introduction to Logic. A fallacy is an argument that appears correct but contains an error in reasoning. Understanding fallacies helps us identify weak arguments, avoid misleading reasoning, and improve critical thinking. In this video we first present the overall structure of informal fallacies, and then study the first category in detail: Fallacies of Relevance. Topics covered in this lecture: • What is a fallacy • The four categories of informal fallacies • Fallacies of Relevance • Appeal to the Populace • Appeal to Emotion • Red Herring • Straw Man • Ad Hominem (Argument Against the Person) • Appeal to Force • Missing the Point Each fallacy is explained using clear argument structures and simple examples so that the reasoning error becomes easy to identify. This lecture is part of a conceptual series on logic, designed for students interested in philosophy, debate, reasoning, and critical thinking.
