This is a tree job in Wayne PA from to remove a number of large Linden trees. The contractor is John B Ward Tree Service. IMO they are the most professional outfit in the Philadelphia area. I just happened to be driving by when they were taking these treess down on 12/10/2025. I AM very familiar with these tree. I used to work for the late owner of the property in the 90s and just talked to his son this last summer. These are all linden trees. They were all leaning towards an open parking lot with nothing but black top in the landing zone. I would have come in on a Saturday, and notched and dropped every one. Might not hav even needed a rope in them. What kind of comapy would use climbers bucket trucks and cranes to take down trees that lean into open areas? Each to his own I suppose, and you certainly can't complain about the results. Another wird thing is that JBW owns at leastone crane. Pretty sire it's 35 or 40 tons, yet they subcontracted a bigger crane, even though you could basically drive right up to the trees. Maybe they are putting on a show. Maybe they were worried about the blacktop. I would have protected the blacktop with padding logs and mats etc. Maybe they're scared of dropping big trees. To me, it just seems strange to bring in all that hardware for notch and drop trees, but like I said, you can't argue with the results. This is an amazing outfit. Big John Grier, Pat Epps, and Jeremy Olsen all used to work for JBW and they are the three best climbers I have ever worked with. JBW is now run by three brothers, Jim, Chris, and Matt Ward. I used to be prety friendly with Matt. We had afalling out over a big white oak that had alittle crack in the main stem bith otherwise no signs of decay or and structurtal imperfections. There was zero chance this tree was going to fail... think about it ... have you ever seen a sold stem white oak fail? One little crack meant nothing. I was the only contractor that recommended that the tree be preserved as it had a significant lean towards a house. The shame of it was that I had recommended reduction pruning on that tree only a year or two earlier. If the clients had pruned the tree as I recommended, the tree would still be standing today. SO I gor pretty upset that JBW wanted to remove the tree. That seemed to be enough to have Matt block my number... Again, each to their own. music credits: Big Rock - Take the Lead by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...
