TOP 10 BIG AIRPORTS IN INDIA 1.Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi: On the top list of busiest airport in India is Indira Gandhi International airport, located in New Delhi, the capital of India. In 2020 IGI airport became the 12th busiest airport across the world. IGI is also the biggest airport of India which has three terminals & longest runways. There are three runways at this airport, which has a stretching of 4430 feets each runway. It is considered the longest runway of India. Apart from that there are 3 terminals at this airport. The capacity of T1C-D is about to increase. Now it is connected with the Orange line of Delhi Metro via Airport express, T1C-D is also connected to National highway 48. Expansion of IGI over an area of 5,106 acres. 2. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM): Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport has been ranked as the second busiest airport in india. The area of Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport is about 750 hectares. Recently this airport has been awarded as “best airport for Customer Experience” all over Asia-PAcific by Airports Council International. • In 2017 CSMIA, awarded as “World’s best airport.” This airport also won the title of “Best Airport in India & Central Asia. • Formerly CSMIA known as Sahara International Airport which is one of the largest airport in India. • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport handles approx 980 flights on a daily basis. 3. Kempegowda International Airport (BLR): The third biggest airport in India is Kempegowda international airport. This airport is located in Bengaluru. This airport was inaugurated in 2008 and now has become the third busiest airport in India by passenger traffic. Kempegowda International airport has only one runway & terminal, yet it handles approx 10.91 million passengers in 2020 along with 311 aircraft movements. This airport is the 29th busiest airport in Asia. Currently Kempegowda international airport is undergoing expansion plans followed by this plan a new terminal & runway is being constructed to expand its capacity. 4. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD): Hyderabad is one of the most visited cities of India, specially by businesspersons because it is a strong IT hub & tourists because of its rich cultural heritage. To handle 18 millions of passengers every year, Hyderabad has “Rajiv Gandhi international airport,” located in Shamshabad. By handling more than 8,048,248 passengers in the fiscal year 2020-21, this airport has become the fourth busiest airport in India. 5. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU): Opened in 1924, the oldest airport & the largest airport in India, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is spread over an area of 1,641 acres, located in Dum Dum Kolkata. The former name of this airport was Dum Dum airport which is also known as Kolkata airport in India. In 1995, Dum Dum airport was renamed in the honor of a great leader of the freedom movement of India “Subhas Chandra Bose.” . 6. Chennai International Airport (MAA): On the list of top 50 airports in India, Chennai international airport had 4th rank, by terms of passenger traffic and cargo movements seven year ago but now it is on sixth rank.. This airport is the sixth busiest airport in India & 49th busiest airport in Asia by the year 2021. In the fiscal year 2021 Chennai airport handled approx 5,495,707 passengers. For south India and southeast Asia this airport is an important gateway. 7. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD): The seventh busiest airport in India is “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, located in Hansol, handling 9 million passengers every year. From the last two years SVPI airport has secured this place by beating Pune international airport. In fiscal year 20-21 this airport handled 3,642,413 passengers that’s why in terms of passenger traffic and cargo movements SVPI is 7th busiest airport in India. 8. Dabolim International Airport (GOI): In 1955, Dabolim international airport was constructed by Portugues, function as civilian airport & airbase for the Indian Navy both. This airport is operated by the airport authority of India & owned by the Indian Navy. 9.Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport (PAT): For the last many years Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport used to rank in 13-15 position, but due to drastic passenger traffic to this airport has made it one of the busiest airport in India. By handling more than 2,710,000 passengers in FY 20-21 this airport became the 9th busiest airport in India. 10.Cochin International Airport (COK):. In 1999, Cochin International Airport opened in the state of Kerala, located in Nedumbassery, Kochi. This airport is the 10th busiest airport in India with the first fully solar powered airport. .
