This is my first attempt at recording an entire band using only one stereo ribbon mic. I was inspired by John Cunitberti's OneMic Series on YouTube. I asked the band Ruby Slipperz to come over and help me try out the AEA R88A Stereo Ribbon Mic to see what we could capture using only one mic. This is documentation of the first attempt. We recorded it in the living room, instead of the recording studio. Because we used both sides of the microphone to capture everyone at different angles for panning Left and Right to the mic. This uses a lot of space to try to get a balance between the Drum kit and still be able to hear the Singer, and two Guitars all captured by one stereo ribbon microphone. This is all one take recorded to one stereo track. (we used the blurry video to prove it) no panning left and right or turning up or down an individual instrument after the fact, no punch in or fixing it later in the mix. You get what was played in the room to the microphone. *Special Thank you to John Cuniberti for being so kind and for sharing his process with me. And thank you to Wes Dooley, Andy, and the entire team at AEA Microphones and Greg Savino at Sweetwater. Great people to work with.
