In this Q&A, Dr Benjamin Hanckel (Institute of Culture and Society) talks about his research on social media platform affordances for identity curation with Dr Jenna Condie (School of Social Sciences). Affordances are the types of actions that are enabled and/or constrained as users and features of digital technologies collide. Ben talks about how young LGBTQI+ people navigate social media in terms of affordances. This Q&A was recorded for Western Sydney University students studying 'Ctrl Alt Shift Identity', a curiosity pod for all students interested in switching up their digital identities in times of pandemics, protests and platforms. The c-pod is co-designed and co-delivered with Student Curriculum Partners and members of the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University.
