BRANSON, Mo. -- A living legend of the Ozarks celebrated her 100th birthday late last week with family and lots of friends at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Violet Hensley is a fiddle player and she's also been crafting fiddles at Silver Dollar City for 50 years. At her 100th birthday celebration, friends talked about her unique talent as a crafter and performer. While she doesn't make fiddles anymore, she can still play. Violet's musical and crafting talent, along with her spunky personality, have taken her from her home in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains across the county. She's been featured on the Beverly Hillbillies, Captain Kangaroo and performed on the biggest stage in country music. "Playing my fiddle on the Grand Ole Opry, the sixth day of August this year was a dream come true," Violet said. However, being on stage at Silver Dollar City, for Violet, feels like home. "Silver Dollar City isn't a 'what.' It's a 'who.' And today it's Violet," Pete Herschend said. The Herschend's thanked her for being a part of their S.D.C family. "This sign will stay for years to come on the Silver Dollar City Gazebo because we love you. You talk about us being flowers in your life, let me tell you, you are a flower in all of our lives. Thank you." As for Ms. Violet's advice for living to 100, she says it's pretty simple. "Don't drink beer, whisky, or wine, and love yourself and everybody else," Violet said. "I just live my life everyday as it comes. You're not going to live but one life. You might as well enjoy it while you're at it."
