KOUGAR JAGUAR SPORTS PRESCOTT HILL CLIMB 2018

A selection of footage from the JDC E-Type day at Prescott hill climb in the UK, to which the Kougar Owners Club were kindly invited. The in-car footage is from a Kougar Sports MK1, fitted with a fairly standard 3.8 XK engine, running twin carbs and E-Type high compression pistons. Apart from careful assembly and a drastically lightened and balanced crankshaft/flywheel, 123 ignition is the only departure from standard tune. A suspected fuel supply problem limited revs on the day, probably just as well in light of the advanced years of both the car and driver. To put things in perspective, most of the filmed runs are about 62 seconds (strictly no timing allowed on these non-race days, remember). The course record for moderns is 36.64 seconds in a Gould. Vintage racing cars such as ERAs in the right hands are sub-50 seconds and the larger 4000cc specials are around the 60-second mark. Viewed from outside the car it all looks quite tame, but I can vouch for the fact that in the cockpit, everything happens much faster! Thanks to everyone who took part for a great day out.
