The Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a majestic bronze statue located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Completed in 1993, it stands 34 meters (112 feet) tall and weighs over 250 metric tons, making it one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world. The statue sits atop a lotus throne on a three-platform altar, model after the design of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing—hence the name “Tian Tan.” Surrounded by six smaller bronze statues known as "The Offering of the Six Devas," the Big Buddha symbolizes harmony between man, nature, people, and religion. Visitors must climb 268 steps to reach the platform, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and sea. Adjacent to the statue is the Po Lin Monastery, a significant Buddhist sanctuary.
