In the Canadian prairies the winter is long dry and cold. A common problem musicians have is their guitar drying out and cracking. This is a simple way to reduce the chance of your guitar top cracking. It is a MUCH more effective method to humidifying your guitar than using a Planet Waves humidifier that sits in between your strings, as the cottage cheese container has a much larger capacity. If you use both the Planet Waves humidifier AND the cottage cheese one it will work even better. You must check your cottage cheese container humidifier once every couple weeks. With the Planet Waves one you must check it once every 2 days. Cottage cheese container humidifier is lower maintenance AND I know for a fact, because everyone admits it to me, that if you have the Planet Waves humidifiers which look so nice, they are usually dried out because most people don't actually fill them with water often enough. That does no good, you can't pretend to humidify your guitar, you have to ACTUALLY HUMIDIFY YOUR GUITAR!!! So, yeah, if you live where it gets cold and dry keep you guitar in it's case when there is snow on the ground. Manitoba and Saskatchewan and North Dakota and Montana, that means 5 months of the year your guitar should be in it's case with a humdifier and the other 7 (the warmer months) you can hang it on the wall or on the stand. Aim for 45 percent humidity, don't let it go below 37 if you can help it. 37 is the bottom of the barrel, and if you get below 37 I wish much luck to you. There you go. Quick disclaimer: I assume no responsibility for any damage that may occur to your guitar if you don't do it properly. Don't use too much water and make sure you've got the lid on with holes in the lid. Have a nice dry season!
