Support for Trans-radial Angiography and Revascularisation Adept Medical introduce the STARBoard, a forearm and hand support specifically designed for trans-radial procedures. It facilitates radial artery access, improves patient comfort and reduces cardiac catheterisation set-up time and procedure costs. It was developed in conjunction with Dr Mark Webster, a leading Interventional Cardiologist at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand. The STARBoard is designed to work with any cardiac or radiology procedure table. It is made from radiolucent carbon fibre and plastic componentry, is extremely lightweight and structurally strong, and contains absolutely no metal parts. An easy to clean, re-usable device, this fully articulating apparatus uses the patient's weight to keep the forearm support in a secure, stable position. It is easy to position, utilising friction pivots which self adjust to fit all patient arm lengths. The unique wrist pivot securely holds the forearm and wrist in optimal position for successful radial artery access. Rapid vascular access is particularly important in unwell, high-risk patients such as those with hypotension or cardiogenic shock. Once the sheath is in the artery, a simple one handed adjustment moves the forearm and hand to a more comfortable position for the remainder of the procedure. Clinician-led design aimed at: • Improving patient outcomes • Decreasing theatre and staff time costs • Improving uptake and success of trans-radial procedures • Fits all cardiac cath lab/ radiology procedure tables • Made of durable, sturdy, non-porous, radiolucent materials • Re-usable and easy to clean • Reversible - suitable for right or left radial access • Extremely lightweight (under 2kg), firm and stable • Easy to place and fit to patient's arm • Ergonomic for patient comfort and physician access Position 1 The forearm is supported out from the patient's side, with the wrist held securely in a fully extended position. This is the optimal position for radial artery access (but not a comfortable for the patient to maintain for more than a minute or two). Position 2 Once radial access is obtained and the sheath inserted, the wrist is returned to a more flexed, medially-rotated position, with the forearm by the patient's side. This is a comfortable position for the remainder of the procedure
