Dr. Omar Ozgur is an ophthalmologist and oculofacial surgeon from Southern California who specializes in treating deformities and abnormalities of the eyelids, upper and mid-face, tear-drainage system and orbit. He also has experience in treating cancer of the eyelids and eye region and is fellowship-trained in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Ozgur earned his BS in Information and Computer Science from UC Irvine and worked as a software engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory before pursuing medicine. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Vermont, College of Medicine. He completed his internship at the University of Hawaii, followed by ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai. He then completed an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) accredited fellowship at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Medical Center. Dr. Ozgur has always had a passion for science and discovery and has integrated computer technology with medical care and research throughout his medical career. He has worked as a co-investigator at NASA's Johnson Space Center, where he has been involved in research studies investigating ocular, orbital and facial changes in astronauts. Dr. Ozgur has published articles in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national and international meetings. Dr. Ozgur is deeply committed to global healthcare, allocating several weeks each year to volunteer abroad with various organizations. His efforts extend beyond providing clinical and surgical services; he actively engages in training and teaching initiatives, empowering healthcare professionals in underserved regions worldwide.
