Searching for Alzheimer's cures in the Amazon Rainforest.

This project is located in the Amazon Rainforest near Manaus and is undertaken in conjunction with Universidade Federal do Amazonas (UFAM) and the collaboration of the Shaman of indigenous tribes - mainly Huni Kuins & Yawanawá. It seeks to find cures from the plants of the Amazon Rainforest and the tribes and community will get a share of any royalties from drugs that are discovered. Dr. Alysson Muotri, Ph.D., is director of the University of California San Diego Sanford Stem Cell Institute Integrated Space Stem Cell Orbital Research Center, a revolutionary laboratory performing experiments aboard the International Space Station The center, launched in 2022, aims to facilitate breakthrough discoveries aimed at diagnosing, treating, and curing cancer and other age-related degenerative diseases. In particular, it focuses on the study of stem cells from the blood, liver, and nervous system, and the modeling of tumors in space. Muotri is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Cellular & Molecular Medicine at UCSD. He focuses his research on solving one of life’s greatest mysteries: What is it that makes us uniquely human? Dr Muotri is a Scientific Advisor to Valis Labs.
