In the film, fluent drinker and film writer Marty (Farrell) is in search of a screenplay after a large bout of writer's block. When Marty gets involved in his two friends (Walken) (Rockwell), scheme of kidnapping dogs and then returning them for the reward money, things take a dangerous turn when the friends kidnap the beloved dog of a gangster (Harrelson). With a deadly gangster on their trail looking for revenge, and the friends running out of options, Marty can't help thinking about using the ensuing events as the basis for his next hit screenplay.
