The Southeast Asia Television (SEATV) and The University of Cambodia (UC) are jointly producing and launching a major documentary film entitled “Surviving the Khmer Rouge Genocidal Regime,” which will be aired on SEATV channel (Channel 31) and all social media platforms of SEATV and UC, such as Facebook and YouTube, on a weekly basis. The goal of this documentary program is in remembering the people of Cambodia who were killed and died during the Khmer Rouge (KR) genocidal regime (17 April 1975 - 7 January 1979) [with more 2 million people died] as well as in documenting the real life stories of the people who survived the KR holocaust by interviewing the remaining survivors, as many of they are getting old and passing away with time. In addition, this documentary program will undertake the following key points: 1) to get an in-depth understanding of what actually happened to the Cambodian people in the various locations and villages of Cambodia as portraying, describing and explaining in their real life stories during the KR era by the survivors (as interviewed in this program); 2) to learn about the sufferings, the strengths, the hopes and the willpowers of the survivors for their determination to keep on living their life, however difficulty it may had been, until they were liberated on 7 January 1979; 3) to attempt to understand the level of violence, extremism, barbarism of the KR acts of attrocities, mass murders, and genocide; 4) to inspire the younger and future generations of Cambodia and the world of not taking this particular history of Cambodia as well as things in life today for granted; and 5) to provide a platform for the true remaining survivors of the KR genocidal regime to share their unique/rare (different) life experiences so that the future generations can learn from this dark chapter of the Cambodian history and to work together to ensure that this kind of history does not repeat itself. This documentary program will be produced and aired weekly for a duration of one hour for a period of four years, starting from September 2020 until September 2024.
