On October 8, 2018, a group of kids was out walking when they came across something awful, like something that will probably haunt them for the rest of their lives. On a frequently used walking trail in Gwinnett County, they discovered a body, a body of a man who had clearly come to a painful end. They called the police just after 5 pm, who were just as disturbed as everyone else when they discovered this poor guy, laying face down on the path. They knew straight away that they were dealing with a homicide but there was a problem: they had no idea who the victim was, what happened to him, or who did this to him. The Gwinnett County Police Department appealed to locals in the area for help in solving this murder, asking for any potential witnesses to come forward. They also needed help identifying the man and asked anyone who had a male, Hispanic family member missing to come forward. And someone did. The victim, who was only 21-years-old, was identified as William Tunchez. His dad reported him missing the day before after he went to go visit a family member on Sunday night but never came home. William’s body was identified by his dad shortly after he was discovered and this new information helped the police move forward with their investigation. After the autopsy, they were able to determine that William died due to a gunshot wound to the neck and before he died, he’d been hit over the head. They knew now that this was definitely a homicide, one that potentially had more than one perpetrator! The first thing they had to figure out was what William was doing in that part of town. He told his dad that he was going to visit his uncle, but that uncle didn’t live anywhere close by and William’s body hadn’t been moved after he died. So what was he doing there?
