In this first lecture on Kinematics, we build the basic language of motion that will be used throughout CBSE and JEE Physics. We start by defining kinematics and the particle model, and then introduce translatory motion (rectilinear and curvilinear). Next, we discuss frames of reference and see why rest and motion are always relative concepts, using simple everyday examples. We then define the trajectory of a particle (its path of motion) and learn how to obtain the equation of trajectory from parametric equations ( x(t) ) and ( y(t) ). After that, we carefully distinguish distance and displacement using standard examples, including motion on a circle, and list key properties that are often tested in conceptual questions. Finally, we define average velocity and average speed, understand the difference between them, and derive important special cases: average speed for equal-time motion at two different speeds (arithmetic mean) and for equal-distance motion at two speeds (harmonic mean). The lecture is calm, exam-tight and concept-focused, designed to strengthen your foundations for CBSE Class 11/12 and JEE (Main/Advanced).
