Governor-elect Bob Ferguson announces budget priorities, proposes 6% cut across state agencies

Washington Governor-elect Bob Ferguson announced his budget priorities to reporters Thursday during the 2025 Associated Press Pre-Session Briefing in Olympia. Ferguson said he is calling for a 6% across-the-board spending cut from state agencies, which would save an estimated $4.4 billion. The proposed spending cuts come as the state faces a projected budget shortfall of more than $12 billion over the next four years. The reductions will not impact public safety agencies – which includes the Washington State Patrol, Department of Corrections and Criminal Justice Training Commission. After announcing the proposed cuts and budget priorities, Ferguson answered questions from reporters.
