Playing and analyzing these two lines by Bill Evans was, once again, an opportunity to become aware of his genius. From the analysis in the attached pdf (developed through a visual approach using graphs and colors, as was also done with the previous Parker lines), it is possible to observe, in my opinion, how Evans assimilated precise compositional concepts through incredible discipline. This time I chose two lines played on the A section of Dizzy Gillespie's "Woody 'N' You," which consists of a series of II V I progressions a whole step apart, progressions that often challenge the extemporaneous composer. Here you will find the video of the first line (line #5), the study of fretboard navigation for that same line, and then the second one, line #6. Along with the in-depth analysis in the pdf. "Lines on Challenging Changes" is a new sub-chapter in my IMPROVISATION CONCEPTS & SOLOING area of study. I will transcribe lines from all my favorite players and also write my own.The aim is to practice soloing over challenging, specific sections of jazz standard chord progressions. This is essential for learning how to connect notes through chord changes, build technique, and develop vocabular.
