I'll never be a Hollie Doyle, but this was great fun!! The Horse Simulator is available to ride at the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket. The guy operating it was excellent. He told lots of stories about his working life with Sir Henry Cecil and Sir Michael Stoute along with his view on horses such as Frankel & Enable. Opening hours for the National Horse Racing Museum are 10am-5pm Tuesday through to Sunday. The entry cost is £15.00 per adult with concessional rates and children under the age of 16 free. At the time of visiting, you could upgrade to a yearly ticket at no additional charge. Their website address is www.nhrm.co.uk where you can find further information. It was an absolute joy to see world hurdler Big Bucks before he was turned out and in the paddock during a tour. Big Bucks is spending a couple of months with them for a holiday and was the reason for my visit. I believe the last day of his holidays there is Sunday 17th July, but check with the NHRM if you are going especially to see him. The behind the scenes tour included a horse display, paddock viewing and exercising arena. There are two tours starting at 11am and 2.30pm. There's a bar area, restaurant and bakery on site. The scones and sausage rolls that I bought from the bakery to take home were delicious. Really enjoyed this visit, made even more special for seeing Big Bucks. Helpful Tips: Before heading to the museum, I parked up on Moulton Road. From here, you could watch the hoses galloping up Warren Hill from the various local stables and they would walk past you on the way down. Many of the stable staff riders saying good morning as they went by. It was a wonderful sight watching the horses in training. Parking is available in the nearby All Saints Road car park. The cost is £3.00 for the day, and I believe all car parks in Newmarket have the same rates. The car park was a 2 minute walk to the National Horse Racing Museum and 3 minute walk to the High Street.
