He completed a doctorate degree in Population Health in 2020 from the University of Oxford. He also completed an MSc in Epidemiology degree from Karolinska Institute, Sweden in 2016. He studied medicine in the top-ranked medical school (Dhaka Medical College) in Bangladesh and also received a Master of Public Health degree. Dr. Shawon received further advanced training in diabetes research from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), in genetic epidemiology from the University of Bristol, and in global health research for non-communicable diseases from the University of Oxford. He has researched different chronic diseases (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and disparity in health care) using electronically linked large-scale routine healthcare data from Australia, UK, and Sweden.
