The EU has given Bulgaria the green light to adopt the euro in January 2026. There were scuffles in the Bulgarian Parliament upon hearing news and thousands have protested against joining the Eurozone over fears of inflation. Bulgaria has been attempting to switch its lev currency to the euro ever since it joined the EU in 2007. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Rosen Zhelyazkov, believes the change in currency will boost economic growth, but will Bulgaria really benefit or could it end up becoming another Greece?
